“Blackbird,” starring Academy Award winner Mo’nique (“Precious”) and Isaiah Washington (“Blue Caprice”), will open Outfest’s Fusion film festival on Friday, March 14, at the Egyptian Theatre.

The film follows Randy (Julian Walker) and his eclectic group of Black, white, gay and straight high school friends who are outsiders in a small Southern town. Mo’nique and Washington portray Randy’s parents.

Absolut and Stella Artois will host a reception in the lobby from 6-7:30 p.m.

The Fusion festival spotlights 30 short and feature-length films from around the world over three days, March 14-16. Participants have the opportunity to see their own lives depicted on screen and deepen their understanding of other LGBT communities of color.

On Saturday, March 15, Outfest will honor actor Alec Mapa with the Fusion Achievement Award before a screening of “Baby Daddy” at 8:30 p.m.  The film examines what happens when two gay men tackle the challenge of parenthood by adopting a young son.

The Outfest Fusion Gala After-Party will take place in the theater’s courtyard.
