From the Mind of Cutting Edge Content Creator Rose Troche`

By  |

Rose Troche` is one of 12 independent artists to receive a Fellowship grant from the 2016 Sundance Institute/Time Warner Foundation Fellowship Program.

The award-winning writer/director/producer of film, television and new media has been on the cutting edge of LGBT content since her groundbreaking “Go Fish” (1994). She recently spoke with reporter Laurie Schenden, at Outfest 2016, about current issues on the minds of LGBT citizens and supporters.

Troche` has had a successful career as a writer-director and producer (“The Safety of Objects,” “The L Word,” “Concussion,” “Sugar”), and most recently has ventured into virtual reality content, including a VR short inspired by the Orlando shooting.

She is shooting an eight-part ensemble comedy entitled “LGBTQIA,” which she hopes to premiere as part of the fellowship’s New Frontier Program. Set in a high school that doubles as an after-school community center where an LGBTQIA group meets; each episode will be 8-10 minutes.

Sundance was also the launch platform for Troche’s “Perspective” VR projects, as reported in Forbes:

“Perspective Chapter 2: The Misdemeanor,” is a 16-minute film depicting a fictional encounter from four different perspectives, between two Brooklyn cops and two young black men accused of petty theft. It’s the sequel to “Perspective Chapter 1: The Party,” a 10-minute film which examined date rape from the viewpoints of the male and the female. Both works have toured college campuses and “The Misdemeanor” installation screened during the Tribeca Film Festival in the Virtual Arcade.

The Sundance Institute/Time Warner Foundation Fellowship Program includes support for Fellows in new media, documentary and narrative film, theatre and film music as well as from Sundance Institute’s Native American and Indigenous Program. Fellows receive continued support ranging from attendance at an annual Lab, mentoring, strategic granting, attendance at the Sundance Film Festival and participation in screenplay readings, work-in-progress screenings and related programs and events.
