Green Day’s American Idiot Nominated for Seven Grammy Awards

Green Day was nominated for seven Grammy Awards, all of this coming one week after the band climbed to number one on the Modern Rock charts with their second single, “Boulevard Of Broken Dreams” from this year’s “American Idiot,” the album that Newsweek Magazine hailed as “one of the best rock albums.”

Green Day’s smash album, “American Idiot,” received nominations in the following categories: Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Best Rock Album, Best Rock Song, Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal. “American Idiot” also received the nod in the Best Short Form Music Video as well as Producer of the Year, non-classical for Rob Cavallo.

“American Idiot” was released on September 21st and debuted at Number One on the Billboard Charts, marking a first for the band in their 15-year career. The album also debuted at the top of the charts in the United Kingdom, Canada, Japan and Australia.

As part of a comprehensive marketing plan, “American Idiot” debuted with The Leak on MTV.com; premiered exclusively on mtvU, was deemed Buzzworthy by MTV; Artist of the Month on Launch, the music destination of Yahoo!; and received extensive media attention in both the alternative and mainstream press, gracing the covers of magazines such as Alternative Press, Spin, N.M.E., Kerrang, Guitar World, Bass Player and Drum. The band also recorded Sessions@AOL, which aired extensively on Fuse. They recently completed an arena tour of the United States, performed on VH1’s “Big In 2004,” “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” “Late Show with David Letterman” and walked on to MTV’s “TRL.”

Green Day will perform tonight on the Billboard Music Awards and is scheduled to appear on MTV New Year’s Eve Special followed by performances on the “Late Show with David Letterman” and “Last Call with Carson Daly” in early January. Front man, Billie Joe Armstrong, will be a featured talk guest at the New York Times Arts & Leisure Weekend on Friday, January 7th discussing the band’s evolution from three-minute songs to the current concept album.
