Josh Groban Wraps Up Extraordinary Year

By  |

Josh Groban, the 23-year-old singing phenomenon, will be ending his extraordinarily successful year with the release of a new live concert DVD “JOSH GROBAN – LIVE AT THE GREEK,” a new PBS GREAT PERFORMANCES concert, and the announcement of a new series of U.S. concert dates beginning in 2005, it was announced today by his record label, Reprise Records.

Beginning in early December, Groban is scheduled for a return visit to PBS’ prestigious GREAT PERFORMANCES series, which was filmed during his shows at LA’s Greek Theatre. Groban’s initial appearance on GREAT PERFORMANCES became a number-one-selling DVD as well as 2002’s best-selling long-form music video.

The new DVD/CD package, “JOSH GROBAN – LIVE AT THE GREEK,” which contains the above performance as well as behind-the-scenes footage from the “CLOSER” Summer Tour 2004, was released November 30th. “The experience of creating the music on my CD ‘CLOSER’ was amazing, but bringing these songs to life on a concert stage was really exciting and certainly challenging. We had great audiences everywhere so by the time the tour got to the Greek Theatre, the show felt perfect. I’m so happy that the PBS GREAT PERFORMANCES got to tape those final shows in Los Angeles and that my fans can enjoy the DVD of the show,” stated Groban. The show features guest appearances by Bela Fleck on banjo, Reprise recording artist Lucia Micarelli on violin and the Crenshaw High School Elite Choir.

Singer Josh Groban visited with Nelson Mandella
during his recent tour through Europe and South Africa.

“Groban is blessed with a deliciously flawless voice… that floats with ease to your heart and soul. It cries out to be savored, even if he’s singing in a language that you haven’t a clue about. And when it grows silent after a two-hour workout, you long for just one more song, one more chance to breathe in that talent,” raved the Arizona Daily Star. The show includes Josh’s live piano and drum debut, stirring performances of the hit single “You Raise Me Up,” the Groban-penned current single “Remember When It Rained,” and concludes with a stunning version of the Simon & Garfunkel classic “America.” The DVD will also have additional material from his two CDs, “JOSH GROBAN” and “CLOSER,” which have collectively sold over nine million copies in the U.S. “CLOSER” is his current CD, which went to No. 1 on the Billboard Pop Charts, and has remained on those charts for over one year.

In 2005, Groban is scheduled to hit the road again for a continuation of one of the most successful concert tours of 2004, already seen by over 500,000 fans including his fanatic following, affectionately termed “The Grobanites.” The tour begins in Tampa on January 25th and continues across the country through the end of March. Groban is currently concluding a tour of Europe and South Africa, where he had the “honor” of spending the afternoon with Nelson Mandela.

Groban will be performing on Christmas Eve day, December 24th, on “Good Morning America.” Josh Groban’s current single, “BELIEVE,” from the film “POLAR EXPRESS,” has just jumped from #19 to #1 on Billboard’s Adult Contemporary chart.

Groban burst into the international music spotlight with the release of his self-titled debut album featuring the hit single “To Where You Are.” His career ascent continued with television appearances including two stand-out performances on “Ally McBeal”; two “Oprah Winfrey” appearances, including her 50th birthday celebration; “Conan O’Brien”; “GMA” three times; the Super Bowl; and a performance at the Closing Ceremonies of the Salt Lake City Olympics in 2002, which was seen by over one billion people.
