Red Carpet Report: Golden Globes 2013

By  |

The best of television and film kicked off the Hollywood awards season with an exceptional red carpet at tonight’s 70th Annual Golden Globes. Despite the chilly temperature, stars put their best fashion face forward and raised the bar for the red carpets to come. Here are my favorite looks, trends, and misses from this year’s Golden Globes.

-2There were so many trends from black to sequins, but the biggest standout color was red. Ben Affleck’s better half, Jennifer Garner, stepped out in a textured sparkly Vivienne Westwood.  Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture- Comedy or Musical winner, Jennifer Lawrence, wowed us in Dior Haute Couture. I love the classic dress with a modern twist with the addition of the metallic belt and her cleavage looked liked cupcake perfection. Naomi Watts wore a Zac Posen Burgundy Silk Crepe Long Sleeve with Open Back Gown with Silk Satin train detail. You certainly can’t fault someone for choosing a gown with sleeves in this chilly Los Angeles weather. Sexy new mom and Best Actress in a Television Drama winner, Claire Danes, looked the best we have ever seen her in a sexy red Versace number.

Peplum is here to stay! These lovely ladies kept it hot on the red carpet. Best Performance by an actress in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture winner Anne Hathaway, look angelic and regal in Chanel. I was surprised to learn she used high/low styling tips and paired her gown with Aldo strappy heels! Modern Family cutie, Sarah Hyland, pulled off a fabulous Max Azria Atelier gown. Rosario Dawson worked the peplum in with a sea-foam blue Antoni Beradi. It wasn’t my favorite look on this starlet, because the dress made her look heavy with such a tight bust area.

Forget 50 shades of Grey! These lovely red carpet ladies went bold in various blues. Some call it tablecloth chic, but I love the fact they took risks. Nicole Richie frames her silhouette in this ice blue lacey Naeem Khan. Modern Family’s Julie Bowen showed she wasn’t afraid of color with teal Halston Heritage one-shoulder Grecian gown. I’m a big fan of Halston’s Spring ’13 and hope to see more of them on red carpet.  You either love or hate this ode to garden party chic on Lucy Lui. Her Carolina Herrera gown was a breath of fresh air with a stunning floral print, pockets, and her long cross-braid was the perfect accessory.

The Saints

Although these ladies stuck to classic black and white, they each took a dazzling approaching scoring them on my fab five list!

Catherine McPhee’s double plunging neckline über sexy Theyskens’ Theory dress is the best she has ever looked on the red carpet. Her high bun and smoky eye was daring and flawless.

Anne Hathaway is angelic in Chanel simplicity.

Julianne Moore’s custom Tom Ford is one of a kind, chic, and not overdone. Clearly one of my favorites.

Michelle Dockery’s stunning amour like Alexandre Vauthier  is so refreshing!

Kate Hudson’s Alexander McQueen black and gold embellished dressed compliments her assets.

The Sinners

-8Rachel Weiz’s Louis Vuitton is fresh from the runway, but falls flat on red carpet. Not a fan of the polka dot train, but let’s be honest no one is looking at the train or her when she’s with sexy hubby, Daniel Craig.

Oliva Munn’s stylist should know which type of dress works in person or photographed. Her Giorgio Armani gown look more like a tub top and maxi skirt with a diamond choker.

Lena Durham is no longer poor. I repeat. She is no longer poor. She is a star and Executive Producer of HBO show Girls. Knowing these facts she should wear a dress that flatters her curves (not a brown biscuit Zac Posen) and shoes she can walk in. If you can wear heel then wear flats-period.

Halle Berry thought she was going to a Miami club and not the Globes. Her  ill-fitting one boob Atelier Versace wasn’t working for her, kinda like every relationship she’s been in.

Emily Mortimer’s  Jenny Packham disco ball ode to Studio 54  gown does nothing for her delicate figure.

Belles of the Ball

These ladies were absolute movie star status perfection get my vote for the best of best!

Jessica Alba (styled by Brad Goreski) epitomized Hollywood glamour in a coral Oscar de la Renta paired with a stunning conversation piece- $5.8 million worth of Harry Winston jewels!

J Law in Dior highlighted her healthy figure (and tiny waist)!

Amy Adams had her biggest red carpet moment last night in Marchesa. She usually sticks to halter and green. So glad she broke free!
