‘Operation Marriage’ Makes Qualifying Run for Oscars

Director Quentin Lee and the cast of “Operation Marriage” will attend the Sept. 27 premiere of the short film in an Academy Award qualifying run at the Laemmle Town Center in Encino Sept. 27-29.

Written by Cynthia Chin-Lee and starring Mindy Cohn (“The Facts of Life”; “Scooby-Doo”) and Tamlyn Tomita (“The Joy Luck Club”; “Karate Kid II”), “Operation Marriage” is based on the true story of a couple whose children are on a mission to get their moms married before the passing of Proposition 8.

The film takes a look at marriage equality from the perspective of children, and is based on Chin-Lee’s children’s book of the same name. The film was produced by Alan Reade of Text Engine Productions, and cast by Emmy nominated casting director Rene Haynes.

Also starring are Aldolfo Alvarez, Diana DeLaCruz and Roel Navarro, with special appearances by Ann Walker and David Kono.

The screenings at the Laemmle Town Center, 17200 Ventura Blvd #121, Encino, mark the film’s theatrical debut. From there, it will run on the film festival circuit.
